Rwanda gorilla trekking safaris - Safaris & Tours

Rwanda gorilla trekking safaris

Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park is home to the endangered mountain gorillas and features scenic volcanic landscapes. Various gorilla families can be trekked, each with distinct traits. Treks usually begin early in the morning and are led by knowledgeable park rangers, lasting from 1 to 8 hours based on the gorillas' location. Groups of up to 8 people can spend one hour with each family. Other activities include tracking golden monkeys, hiking trails around Mount Bisoke and other volcanic peaks, and engaging with local communities to learn about Rwandan culture. The best times for trekking are during the dry seasons from June to September and December to February, when wildlife is easier to spot and trails are less muddy. Accommodation options range from luxury lodges to budget-friendly guesthouses, many of which provide beautiful views and proximity to the park entrance. Gorilla trekking permits are necessary and typically cost around $1,500 per person, so they should be reserved in advance; while costly, they support conservation efforts. For trekking, physical fitness is important, and participants should wear sturdy hiking boots, carry rain gear, walking sticks, and gloves, while respecting wildlife by maintaining a safe distance from the gorillas and following ranger guidelines
