This 3-day mid-range private safari to Akagera National Park offers a rewarding way to explore one of Rwanda's most celebrated wildlife areas. On Day 1, you will be picked up from your hotel in Kigali and drive to Akagera National Park, a journey lasting approximately three hours. The route offers glimpses of Rwandan life and is dotted with scenic hills and valleys. Upon arrival at the park, you'll check into your lodge and enjoy lunch before heading out for an afternoon boat ride on Lake Ihema. This boat trip provides the opportunity to view hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of birdlife, including colorful kingfishers and herons. After the boat safari, you will take an evening game drive, allowing you to spot additional wildlife such as giraffes, zebras, and antelopes as they move through the park in search of food. The day concludes with a comfortable stay at the lodge, where you can relax and reflect on the day's sightings.
Day 2 starts early with a game drive designed to track down predators such as lions and leopards while watching for grazers like buffaloes and elephants. The morning hours are ideal for observing active wildlife as they begin their day. Along the drive, look for other animals, including waterbucks, topis, and impalas. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed in the park, allowing you to take in the surroundings while enjoying a meal. In the afternoon, the journey continues with game drive routes through the savannah and wetlands, where thanks to the varied habitats, you could encounter species such as bushbucks, elands, and various bird species. On your final day, you will set out for an early morning game drive, aiming to spot any wildlife you may have missed earlier in the trip. Depending on the timing, it might also be possible to spot wildlife drinking at water sources. After the morning drive, you will return to the lodge for breakfast before beginning the return trip to Kigali. The drive back to the city will take approximately three hours.
