This 2-days fantastic gorilla trekking safari vacation is one of the best and equally rewarding primate safari experiences. You will move from Kigali and cross the border at Gatuna border crossing, heading to Uganda through winding roads, where you will culminate in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the world's recognized thickest forest and home to more than half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. This area was also home to the food gatherers, the so-called Batwa pygmies, a forest-dwelling tribe that initially lived in this lush rainforest.
On Day 1, depart from Kigali early in the morning, driving through the picturesque Rwandan hills. The journey to Bwindi takes approximately 4-5 hours, passing vibrant tea plantations and local villages, offering glimpses of everyday life. Upon arrival at Bwindi, you’ll settle into your lodge, have lunch, and have the option to visit the Batwa community. Here, you can immerse yourself in the lifestyle of this initially forest-dwelling tribe, experiencing their cultural dances and entertainment. Afterward, head back to the lodge for dinner, relaxation, and storytelling with your guide or other visitors at the lodge, or choose to have personal rest as you prepare for the strenuous trek ahead the following morning.
On this day, wake up early for breakfast and pack a lunch from the lodge. You will then be driven by our company guide to the headquarters and starting points of the trek. Before the trek, you will go through a briefing, where the park rangers will explain the dos and don'ts before you enter the forest to trek alongside the mountain gorillas. The trek takes about 4 to 6 hours, depending on where you find the gorilla family; some can be located close, while others may be farther away. After spotting the mountain gorillas, you will be allowed to stay for one hour, taking pictures with no flash and admiring their way of life. You will then return from the forest, completing the trek, and receive certificates of completion and self-fulfillment. You will then sit back in the vehicle, and our company guide will drive you back through the winding roads to Kigali, either to your hotel or the airport.
