Day 1: On-Foot Rhino Tracking at Ziwa and Journey to Murchison
Bright and early, Fred greeted Elaine and her family at their Gaba residence, welcoming them aboard the custom 4x4 Land Cruiser. Leaving Kampala behind, they journeyed north toward Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the only place in Uganda where wild white rhinos roam freely. Accompanied by expert rangers, the family set off on foot for an thrilling tracking experience, observing these gentle giants up close in their natural habitat. Seeing her son's excitement while safely watching a mother rhino and her calf was an early highlight for Elaine. Afterward, they enjoyed a delicious lunch before continuing toward Murchison Falls National Park. Arriving at the scenic Murchison River Lodge in the late afternoon, the family settled into their comfortable quarters, relaxing on the lodge deck overlooking the Nile as the sun dipped below the horizon, eagerly anticipating the wild adventures ahead.
Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Majestic Nile River Cruise
Dawn broke over the savannah as Fred navigated the Land Cruiser across the northern bank of Murchison Falls. With the pop-up roof raised, Elaine and her family took in panoramic views, spotting lions, herds of elephants, Rothschild giraffes, jackals, and various antelope species. Fred’s sharp eye and photography tips helped capture incredible family moments against the dramatic landscape. Following a midday rest, they embarked on a afternoon boat cruise along the Victoria Nile toward the base of Murchison Falls. The riverbanks teemed with wildlife: pods of hippos, Nile crocodiles, and vibrant birdlife line the shore. Reaching the base of the falls, the family stood mesmerized by the sheer power of the water forcing its way through a narrow gorge. The day concluded back at Murchison River Lodge with a cozy dinner, trading stories under a star-filled African sky.
Day 3: Top of the Falls Experience and Return Journey to Gaba
On their final morning, after a hearty breakfast overlooking the river, the family departed Murchison River Lodge for one last grand spectacles: a visit to the top of Murchison Falls. Standing right at the edge, they felt the ground tremble and saw the roaring Nile funnel through the narrow seven-meter gap before plunging into the devil’s cauldron below—creating a permanent, vibrant rainbow in the mist. Fred captured beautiful family photos with this iconic backdrop before they began the smooth return journey south. Travelling comfortably in their Land Cruiser, the family reflected on a memorable 3-day safari packed with rhino encounters, big game sightings, and breathtaking landscapes. By evening, Fred safely dropped Elaine, her husband, and their son back at their residence in Gaba, completing an unforgettable Ugandan adventure for a family visiting all the way from Sri Lanka.
