Planning a 10-day Uganda safari brings together the country’s premier wildlife parks and primate habitats in one smooth overland loop. Instead of rushing through long transit days, this route balances open savannah drives with unhurried forest walks, giving you genuine time on the ground. You begin by tracking white rhinos on foot before heading north to the roaring rapids of Murchison Falls. From there, the road winds south past crater lakes and tea estates into Kibale Forest to spend time with wild chimpanzees. Next come the open plains and hippo-lined waters of Queen Elizabeth National Park, followed by the misty, steep ridges of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for your hour with a mountain gorilla family. We handle all permit reservations, park entries, and comfortable lodge stays along the way, leaving you free to focus entirely on the journey.

Detailed 10 Days Uganda safari
Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe
Your driver-guide meets you right outside the arrivals terminal at Entebbe International Airport and transfers you to your nearby guesthouse or hotel. Depending on when your flight lands, you have plenty of time to shake off the long flight, walk along the quiet shores of Lake Victoria, or browse the local craft markets. If you touch down in the morning, we can easily arrange an afternoon canoe excursion into Mabamba Swamp to look for the prehistoric-looking shoebill stork among the papyrus reeds. Otherwise, take the afternoon to rest by the pool, enjoy a fresh tilapia dinner, and get a brief rundown of the road ahead from your guide. Getting a solid night of sleep here sets a relaxed pace before the early morning departure north.
Day 2: Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to Murchison Falls National Park
After an early breakfast, you leave the city traffic behind and drive northwest toward Nakasongola for a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Here, you step out of the vehicle and follow a local ranger on foot through the bush to observe southern white rhinos grazing at close range. Following lunch near Masindi, you continue into Murchison Falls National Park and drive straight up to the top of the falls. Watching the entire Nile River force its way through a narrow seven-meter rock gorge before plunging forty-five meters down is loud, wet, and unforgettable. You then cross to your lodge near the riverbanks, check in, and enjoy dinner while listening to hippos grunting down in the water below.
Day 3: Game Drive and Nile Boat Cruise in Murchison Falls
You set out at dawn across the northern savannah plains of the Buligi track, when predators are still active and the light is soft. Your guide scans the open grassland and borassus palm groves for lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, herds of Rothschild’s giraffes, elephants, and large groups of Uganda kob. You return to the lodge for a hot lunch and a midday break during the warmest hours. In the afternoon, you board a launch boat heading upstream toward the base of the falls. Along the riverbanks, massive Nile crocodiles sunbathe beside pods of hippos, while elephants and buffaloes wade into the shallows to drink. Birders can also spot African fish eagles, kingfishers, and red-throated bee-eaters nesting in the sandy cliffs before returning to camp.
Day 4: Scenic Drive South to Kibale Forest National Park
Today is a longer overland transfer as you travel south along the edge of the Albertine Rift Valley toward Fort Portal. While the drive takes around seven to eight hours, the changing scenery keeps the window views interesting. You pass traditional homesteads, busy roadside fruit stalls, rolling hills carpeted in bright green tea plantations, and views of the Rwenzori Mountains on clear days. You stop in Fort Portal town for a relaxed lunch before continuing a short distance to your lodge near Kibale Forest. Spend the late afternoon walking around the nearby volcanic crater lakes or simply resting on your veranda surrounded by forest sounds, preparing for tomorrow morning's primate trek.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking and Bigodi Wetland Walk
After breakfast, you report to the Kanyanchu visitor center for a briefing before walking into Kibale’s dense tropical rainforest. Home to roughly 1,500 chimpanzees, this forest offers the highest chance in East Africa of finding habituated communities. Following their loud pant-hoots through the undergrowth, you spend a full hour watching them groom, feed high in the fig trees, or patrol the forest floor. After lunch back at the lodge, you head over to the community-run Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. A local guide leads you along wooden boardwalks through the papyrus swamp, where you often spot red colobus monkeys, black-and-white colobus, grey-cheeked mangabeys, and colorful birds like the great blue turaco.
Day 6: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park and Kazinga Channel Cruise
You leave Kibale after breakfast and drive south toward Queen Elizabeth National Park, crossing the Equator line along the way. As the terrain opens into wide savannah framed by the Rwenzori range, you check into your lodge and have lunch. In the afternoon, you head down to the pier for a two-hour boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, a natural waterway linking Lake Edward and Lake George. Because animals gather here to drink, the shoreline is packed with wildlife. You drift past hundreds of hippos, herds of elephants cooling off in the mud, waterbucks, monitor lizards, and flocks of pelicans and African skimmers, all easily photographed from the water.
Day 7: Kasenyi Plains Game Drive and Transfer to Ishasha
An early morning game drive takes you onto the Kasenyi Plains, the primary breeding ground for Uganda kob and a prime hunting territory for the park’s lions. Driving through the golden grass at sunrise, you also look for giant forest hogs, warthogs, buffaloes, and leopards resting in the candelabra trees. After lunch, you drive south into the quieter, remote Ishasha sector of the park. This southern region is famous for its resident prides of lions that habitually climb into the thick branches of wild fig and acacia trees to escape the midday heat and biting flies. You spend the late afternoon searching these large trees before settling into your southern camp for dinner.
Day 8: Ishasha Morning Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
You take one more morning drive through Ishasha to catch the tree-climbing lions before they descend, alongside herds of topi grazing across the open plains. After an early lunch, you leave the savannah behind and wind steadily upward into the misty, terraced hills of southwestern Uganda toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The road climbs through vibrant farming villages and steep valleys until the thick, ancient rainforest canopy comes into view. Upon arriving at your forest lodge, you check in, unpack your hiking gear, and enjoy an early dinner. Getting to bed early is essential tonight so you are well-rested for tomorrow's gorilla trek.
Day 9: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi and Lake Bunyonyi
You arrive at the park headquarters by 7:30 AM for a ranger briefing on forest safety and gorilla etiquette before splitting into small groups of eight. Guided by experienced trackers, you hike through steep, tangled undergrowth for anywhere from one to five hours until you locate your assigned gorilla family. Once found, you spend one quiet hour sitting just meters away, watching silverbacks, mothers, and playful juveniles feed and interact in their natural home. After returning to the trailhead to collect your trekking certificate, your guide drives you through the Kigezi highlands to Lake Bunyonyi. You spend the evening relaxing beside this deep, island-dotted lake, celebrating your trek over a quiet lakeside dinner.
Day 10: Lake Bunyonyi Morning and Return to Entebbe
Wake up to cool mist drifting across the terraced hills surrounding Lake Bunyonyi. After a leisurely breakfast overlooking the water, you can take a short dugout canoe ride to visit a couple of the lake’s historic islands before packing up. You then begin the scenic drive back east toward Entebbe, breaking up the journey with a stop in Mbarara for a hot lunch. Later in the afternoon, you pause at the Kayabwe Equator monument to stretch your legs, watch the water-swirl demonstration, and pick up any last-minute coffee or handmade crafts. Your guide drops you directly at Entebbe International Airport in time for your evening departure flight home.
