This 8 Days - Ol Pejeta, Lake Nakuru, Masai Mara, Lake Naivasha and Amboseli begins with an early departure from Nairobi, driving towards Amboseli National Park. The drive takes approximately 4 hours (around 240 km). On arrival at your chosen lodge or camp around lunchtime, you will check in and have your meal. Afterwards, you will go on an afternoon game drive within Amboseli. The park is known for its large elephant herds and views of Mount Kilimanjaro when the weather is clear. Animals commonly seen include wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, gazelle, and lion. The open plains make animal spotting straightforward. You will stay overnight at your accommodation in Amboseli.
A full day is dedicated to exploring more of Amboseli. You can choose to have a relaxed breakfast and then depart for full day game drives with packed lunch, returning to the lodge late afternoon, or opt for an early morning game drive (around 6:00 AM) to see animals when they are most active. Midday game drives are possible but often warm, so some people relax at the camp during those hours. The park offers ample opportunity to see elephant groups at close range. Various birds are also present. You will return to your lodge for dinner and a second overnight stay in Amboseli.
After breakfast and check-out, you will depart Amboseli and drive to Lake Naivasha. This is a longer transit day, with the drive taking approximately 5.5 to 6.5 hours (around 313 km). Upon arrival in the afternoon, you will check into your lodge near the lake. The main activity here is usually a boat trip on the freshwater lake to see hippos and many bird types. A nature walk on Crescent Island is also a popular option, where you can walk near wildlife like giraffes and zebras. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at a lakeside accommodation.
Following breakfast, you will check out and depart for Lake Nakuru National Park. The drive between the two lakes is short, about 1.5 to 2 hours (around 67 km), so you will arrive around midday. After lunch and check-in at your accommodation, you will go on an afternoon game drive. Lake Nakuru is known as a sanctuary for black and white rhinos and commonly has large populations of flamingos, depending on water levels. Other animals present include buffalo, waterbucks, and a variety of birds. You will have dinner and stay overnight at a camp or lodge near the park.
After an early breakfast, you will check out and leave Lake Nakuru National Park for the Masai Mara National Reserve. This drive takes approximately 5 to 6 hours (around 240 km), much of which is on unpaved roads towards the end. You will arrive at your camp or lodge in the Mara in time for lunch. The afternoon is spent on a game drive in the reserve, a top location for finding big cats, elephants, and other plains game. The reserve is famous for high animal concentrations. You will have dinner and an overnight stay in the Masai Mara.
This day is entirely for morning and afternoon game drives in the vast Masai Mara. The schedule is flexible; you can take a morning game drive at 6:00 AM, return for breakfast, and then go out again in the afternoon, or take a full-day trip with a packed lunch. Your guide can help plan based on animal movements and your preferences. There is also an optional cultural visit to a local Maasai village (at an extra fee). The reserve offers chances to see lions, leopards, cheetahs, and many other animals in their natural settings. Dinner and your overnight stay continue at your Mara accommodation.
After an early breakfast, you will begin the drive to Ol Pejeta Conservancy. This is a long travel day, requiring about 5 hours on the road to reach Lake Naivasha and then another long drive of over 6 hours total from Naivasha to Ol Pejeta (distances vary, plan for a full travel day). It is also common to fly from the Mara to Nairobi and then drive to Ol Pejeta to save time. The drive traverses central Kenya. You will arrive in the afternoon for an introductory game drive. Ol Pejeta is a well-known conservation success story, home to Kenya's only chimpanzee sanctuary and a major black rhino sanctuary. Dinner and overnight will be at a camp or lodge within Ol Pejeta.
On your final day of your8 Days - Ol Pejeta, Lake Nakuru, Masai Mara, Lake Naivasha and Amboseli, you can have an early morning game drive before breakfast.
