You will enjoy a boat safari and a game drive in the Kasenyi plains, where you will see leopards, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, and antelopes. In Lake Mburo, you will encounter elands, zebras, and giraffes. You will also have the option for horseback riding and a walking safari. This 5-Day Uganda Safari can begin either at Lake Mburo or Queen Elizabeth, depending on the client's interest.
This 5-Day Uganda Safari to Queen Elizabeth Park and Lake Mburo National Park starts with a scenic drive from Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park. This route takes you across the Equator in Kayabwe, where you'll pause for a photo opportunity and witness a fascinating water experiment illustrating the Coriolis effect. The journey offers picturesque views of Uganda's rural landscape, with its rolling hills and local villages. Upon arrival, you'll settle into your lodge and prepare for your first game drive as the sun begins to set. During this evening excursion, you'll look for nocturnal predators and spot a variety of wildlife, including elephants, buffaloes, and various antelope species as they come out to graze.
An early start is rewarded with a morning game drive in the Kasenyi plains, a prime location for spotting lions, leopards, and herds of Uganda kobs. Your guide will navigate the savanna to help you find the most captivating wildlife before the midday heat sets in. After a hearty lunch, you'll embark on a boat safari along the Kazinga Channel. This waterway is a wildlife hotspot, boasting one of Africa's densest populations of hippos, along with crocodiles, elephants, and a huge variety of birdlife along its banks. The day concludes with a visit to Lake Katwe, where you'll observe locals mining salt and learn about this traditional way of life.
This day is dedicated to one of Uganda's most exhilarating activities: chimpanzee tracking. You'll head to the stunning Kyambura Gorge, a sunken tropical forest within the savanna, often called the "Valley of Apes." A park ranger will lead you into the gorge to search for the park's habituated chimpanzee community. The trek can be physically demanding as you navigate the gorge's unique terrain, but the reward of observing our closest relatives in their natural habitat is truly unforgettable. Besides chimpanzees, the gorge is home to other primates and many bird species, adding to the richness of the experience.
After an early breakfast, you'll leave Queen Elizabeth National Park and drive to the picturesque Lake Mburo National Park, arriving in the afternoon. Though smaller than Queen Elizabeth, Lake Mburo is a gem known for its serene landscapes and diverse wildlife, including large herds of zebras, impalas, and elands. In the afternoon, you'll enjoy a game drive, exploring the park's rolling hills and acacia woodlands. For an extra dose of adventure, you can opt for an optional night game drive, which offers a thrilling opportunity to search for nocturnal animals like leopards and hyenas.
Your final day of the 5-Day Uganda Safari to Queen Elizabeth Park and Lake Mburo National Park begins with a unique safari experience. Since Lake Mburo is free of lions, a guided walking safari is a safe and immersive way to get up close with nature. Led by a ranger, you'll track animals on foot and learn about the park's ecosystem in a way that's impossible from a vehicle. Alternatively, for an even more memorable experience, you can choose an optional horseback riding safari, bringing you closer to the wildlife. After your morning activity, you will start the return journey to Kampala, carrying with your memories of a fantastic Ugandan safari.
