Detailed Itinerary Day By Day

Day 1: Arrive Entebbe (EBB), Transfer to Kampala/Entebbe

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport (EBB), you will be met by a driver/guide and transferred to your accommodation in Entebbe or Kampala. The drive takes approximately 1 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. This day is dedicated to acclimatizing to the local time and climate. Settle into your lodge, enjoy a welcome dinner, and prepare for the adventure ahead. Depending on your arrival time, optional activities such as a sunset boat cruise on Lake Victoria can be arranged.

Day 2: Drive to Jinja (Source of the Nile), Optional White-Water Rafting

After breakfast, embark on a 3 to 4-hour scenic drive east to Jinja, the adventure capital of Uganda and the historically recognized source of the mighty Nile River. Upon arrival, you can take a tranquil boat trip to the exact spot where the Nile begins its journey north. The highlight for adrenaline enthusiasts is the optional, exhilarating white-water rafting experience on the Grade IV/V rapids. Other softer adventure options include quad biking or horse riding along the riverbanks. The drive is approximately 80 km from Kampala and showcases Uganda's lush green countryside.

Day 3: Transfer to Murchison Falls NP (Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary Stop), Afternoon Nile Cruise & Falls Hike

Today involves a long but rewarding travel day (approx. 6-7 hours drive) north towards Murchison Falls National Park. An essential en-route stop is the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the only place in Uganda where you can trek the white rhinos in their natural habitat. After tracking the rhinos, enjoy lunch and continue to the park. In the afternoon, take a three-hour boat cruise up the Nile to the base of Murchison Falls, where you can see abundant wildlife like large populations of hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, and buffalos along the banks. The boat trip is followed by a short, invigorating hike to the top of the falls for a breathtaking view of the Nile as it crashes through a narrow gorge.

Day 4: Morning Game Drive in Murchison, Transfer to Kibale Forest

An early start for a morning game drive in the park's northern section (Buligi track), home to species such as Rothschild's giraffes, lions, leopards, Uganda kobs, oribis, and waterbucks. The open savanna landscape makes spotting predators easier. After the game drive, you will have lunch and embark on a long transfer (approx. 6-7 hours drive) south to the Fort Portal area, the location of Kibale Forest National Park. The journey offers stunning views of the Albertine Rift Valley and local village life.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale, Transfer to Queen Elizabeth NP

After an early breakfast, head to the Kanyanchu Visitor Centre for a briefing before your chimpanzee trekking experience. Kibale Forest is renowned for having the highest concentration of primates in East Africa, and your one-hour encounter with habituated chimpanzee communities is a highlight. After lunch, take a 3 to 4-hour scenic drive south to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive offers views of the Rwenzori Mountains and beautiful crater lakes. You will arrive at your lodge in the late afternoon/early evening.

Day 6: Game Drive & Boat Cruise in Queen Elizabeth (Ishasha for Tree-Climbing Lions if possible)

Start the day with a morning game drive in the Kasenyi plains for excellent opportunities to spot lions, elephants, warthogs, and vast herds of Uganda kob. In the afternoon, take a relaxing boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, a natural channel connecting Lake Edward and Lake George. The channel is teeming with wildlife, including hundreds of hippos, buffalos, and a myriad of water birds. If time and logistics permit, a drive through the Ishasha sector, famous for its unique tree-climbing lions, can be included, involving an extra drive of around 2-3 hours.

Day 7: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable NP (or Mgahinga)

Today involves another transfer day (approx. 4-6 hours drive) south to the misty, mountainous region of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to roughly half the world's mountain gorillas. The drive offers spectacular scenery of the "Switzerland of Africa" with terraced hillsides and lush vegetation. You will arrive at your lodge near the tracking sector in the afternoon to relax and prepare for the next day's highly anticipated gorilla trek.

Day 8: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi/Mgahinga, then transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

This is the main event: mountain gorilla trekking. After an early briefing, you will head into the dense forest with experienced rangers to track a habituated gorilla family. The trek can range from one hour to a full day, depending on the gorillas' movements. Once located, you have a precious hour to observe these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. Afterward, return to the starting point and transfer to the nearby Lake Bunyonyi (approx. 2-3 hours drive), Africa's second deepest lake, known for its picturesque islands and safe swimming conditions (bilharzia-free).

Day 9: Cross to Rwanda, Visit Volcanoes NP, Explore Twin Lakes/Cultural sites

After breakfast, drive to the Cyanika border crossing and enter Rwanda. The drive from Lake Bunyonyi to Volcanoes National Park (PNV) takes around 2 to 3 hours. The afternoon can be spent relaxing at the lodge with stunning views of the Virunga Volcanoes, exploring the nearby twin lakes (Ruhondo and Burera), or visiting a local cultural site to learn about Rwandan traditions and history.

Day 10: Golden Monkey Trekking & Iby'iwacu Cultural Village

In the morning, participate in a golden monkey trekking experience in Volcanoes National Park. This lighter trek, compared to the gorilla trek, allows you to observe these playful and endangered primates in the bamboo forest. After the trek, visit the Iby'iwacu Cultural Village (now known as the Gorilla Guardian Village) for an immersive experience with local communities, enjoying traditional dances, food preparation demonstrations, and learning about their history. Later in the day, begin the scenic 2-3 hour drive to Kigali, Rwanda's clean and modern capital city.

Day 11: Fly Kigali (KGL) to Tanzania (Kilimanjaro - JRO), Transfer to Arusha/Tarangire

In the morning, transfer to Kigali International Airport (KGL) for your flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) in Tanzania. A direct flight takes approximately 1 hour and 38 minutes, while connecting flights can take 4-7 hours depending on layovers. Upon arrival at JRO, you will be met by a Tanzanian guide and transferred to Arusha (approx. 1 hour drive) or directly towards the Tarangire area to minimize driving the next day.

Day 12: Drive to Serengeti NP, Afternoon Game Drive

Depart after breakfast for the iconic Serengeti National Park. The drive is lengthy (approx. 6-8 hours to the central Seronera region), passing through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Enjoy an en-route game drive as you head into the plains. The Serengeti is famous for its endless savannas and incredible predator populations. You will arrive at your tented camp or lodge in the central Serengeti in the afternoon for a game drive before settling in for the evening.

Day 13: Full Day Serengeti Game Drive (Migration Viewing if seasonal)

Spend a full day exploring the vast plains of the Serengeti. Your game drives will focus on seeking out the Great Migration if it is seasonally present in the area, involving hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra. Regardless of the migration's location, the park offers outstanding wildlife viewing, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo, and numerous antelope species. The sheer scale and density of wildlife here are unmatched.

Day 14: Drive to Ngorongoro Crater, Descend for Crater Floor Game Drive

After an early breakfast, drive to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater (approx. 3 hours drive to the rim from central Serengeti). Descend 600 meters into the crater floor for a spectacular 5–6-hour game drive. The crater is a natural amphitheater and offers an incredibly high concentration of animals, including the rare black rhino, elephants, lions, hyenas, and virtually every other plains species. The unique ecosystem provides constant dramatic wildlife encounters. In the late afternoon, ascend the crater rim and drive to your lodge in the nearby Karatu area.

Day 15: Morning Game Drive/Cultural Visit, Transfer to Arusha

Enjoy a final morning activity, which could be a short game drive in a nearby conservation area, a visit to a local Maasai cultural village, or simply enjoying the scenic coffee plantations of Karatu. Afterward, begin the transfer back to Arusha (approx. 3 hours drive). The remainder of the day can be spent relaxing at your hotel in Arusha, souvenir shopping, or visiting a cultural center.

Day 16: Depart from Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO)
